Things to Remember
“There will always be hope, wherever you are, until you yourself abandon it.” Lost Odyssey
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” Unknown
Smash Journal
Hannah got an e-mail from Michael’s last week. They were talking about these things. Smash Journals. Basically they’re like a a scrapbook, but more active. To me it’s about logging memories as they happen, like writing in a journal at the end of the day. Scrapbooks are where you store memories from big events. I feel like they’re a ginormous project. These Smash Journals feel much more approachable. It could just be that I LOVE journals.
Anyway, Hannah went to the store, but they were all sold out. The guy behind the counter said they’d have more tomorrow. When Hannah wants something bad enough, it gets done. So she went with mom while I was at work and picked a couple up.
These things are amazing. In their YouTube Video they show a couple of the myriad ways these journals can be used. People track their school progress, their pregnancy progress, showcase their doodles. You could use it to make a timeline of all the movie stub you’ve collected over the years. Your imagination and supplies are the limit. I’m creating a book of things that inspire me, or have inspired me, to feel special. Things that made me feel more than a cog in someone’s engine. Or things that have made me feel in general, good and bad.
Maybe I’ll try to post some pictures of it, haha. But you special people will probably just have to ask me to see it

Future Short Story
This was a dialogue exercise from a couple of days ago.
“Corwin, I’m a Hunter.”
“I understand that.”
“And nothing you can say will ever make me stop being a Hunter.”
“I respect your dedication.”
“Then you see why this won’t work.”
“Not really, no.”
“I’m a Hunter. You’re my prey.”
“Why?”
“You eat people.”
“I certainly don’t. Why do you think I own the largest cattle ranch in the industry? It isn’t because I like the smelly beasts, I assure you.”
“You don’t… But there were three deaths in the region over the last month. All exsanguinated. Everything points to-”
“It wasn’t me.”
“Then someone’s done a great frame job.”
“I’ll help you figure out who.”
“That cow blood? It’s lowered your IQ.”
“Your ultimate goal is the cessation of these killings? Eliminate me and you’ll lose an ally. The murders will continue.”
I’m excited to see where it leads.
Writing Prompt
This bit came to me after I watched an episode of Outer Limits (Identity Crisis)
“I’m waiting for you to say “I’m not okay”. Then I’ll wrap my arms around you and let you cry. I’ll hold you as you catch your breath. I’ll wipe away any tears you miss. I promise you this: if you’ll just let me close enough, I’ll be there until the end. I love you.”
I’m feeling a bit melodramatic this week, haha.
Another Interesting Writing Prompt
Procrastinating today, I found this little segment tucked into my notebook:
‘They thought I charged ahead without caution and waited for the day I would fall. I knew it. I saw it in their eyes. Do the aristocracy not know their people? I knew mine. I knew they wanted what I had.’
And just below that:
‘I felt like I could lie down and sleep forever. Each step down the marble hall reverberated in my bones. Every sound– if there were any in that silent place aside from my own slippered steps– came from a distance, like hearing the ocean’s waves through ears filled with cotton. It felt like a dream.
A dream wouldn’t have hurt.’
Just thought I would share ^^
In other news, Thomas Bergersen released a CD titled ‘Illusions’. Everyone should go give it a listen. The man does amazing stuff. I recommend ‘Promise’ and ‘Soulseeker’.
And I added 650 words to Old Dominion today. Yay~

Last Week’s Writing Exercise
Here’s something old. I’m toying with the idea of trying to tell a story all through letters. Just for the practise. It’s been stretching some different writing muscles for me, haha.
‘Amelie,
It’s three years now and I’m still writing these. Pretty pathetic, huh? Your pathetic priest. Even worse? Every time I come down, I look for a reply from you. You’re laughing at me. If our positions were reversed, I might do the same.
Or I would come to you, cradling you against me until neither of us were laughing anymore and our tears unstoppable?
In the center of town they built a rose garden. Right on the roundabout! Can you believe it? The town doesn’t have enough people for a stoplight, but we have a garden on our roundabout.
They aren’t real roses. You know how closely the Church guards those. And yes, I know unaltered plants wouldn’t survive. Still, it would be nice. I’d love to have a real rose to give you instead of these engineered daffodils.
But real or not, you’ll love the new garden. Alice May oversaw the project. She got the whole congregation up with the sun and put a shovel in every hand. We worked all day long in the summer sun (which isn’t that bad here in Pennsylvania. I just wanted your sympathy). We put the last bush in the ground just as the sun started to set. Imagine all those full blossoms bathed in pale amber light, strong pines shielding them on all sides from the worst of the weather. When the bushes grow taller, they’ll form a simple maze for the kids. Doesn’t that sound nice? I’d like to get lost for a while. Who could complain when they’re surrounded by the fragrance of rose and pine?
Next time I’ll bring one of those roses for you.
Love,
Issachar’
Writing Prompt
‘”You really thing you can hold me here?”
“No. Not for long. But long enough.”
“You think so.”
The rattle of the cage drew my eyes to it. And by drew I meant twitched. But so far the super-tempered durasteel was holding. It had better, for the price I paid. “You’ll get out of there when we arrive. Not any sooner if you value life.”
“Funny words, coming from you.”
I crossed my arms. The figure in the cage apparently appreciated the irony and slunk back against the far wall.’
I wrote this in my notebook for a warm up a while back. Going back through, it caught my eye. I’m not sure who the characters are or what the situation is, but I think it could have potential. Maybe I’ll poke at it a little more.
Also, I’m starting work again on Old Dominion. I hand wrote the next section, so now I just need to type it up and edit. Probably edit a lot, haha. But that’s nothing new.
